	Soft Procedures is a 480-page book accompanied by an 18-minute video that contains my research and visual explorations during my time in the MFA Graphic Design program at RISD.
Within the book are my writings in 64 fragments, transcripted conversations with designers, artists, and academics, and a collection of personal works in video, motion, print and web.

Moót [mo-ót] is a Philippine-based brand that creates scents and cosmetics sourced from essential oils of Philippine flowers. Moót translates to love. The logotype, brimming, full, and whole, embodies this in the way that it wraps around and hugs the packaging and labels.

	In Database as a Symbolic Form, Lev Manovich argues that the database, a structured collection of information stored in a computer, and the narrative are oppositional forces. The former, in its purest form is unordered, while the latter inherently is — a cause-and-effect trajectory.
Stories explores the architecture and interface of the website in order to execute multiple narratives through a catalog of 24 arbitrarily filmed footage: a ball bouncing down a flight of stairs; a half-eaten pizza; tumbling clothes in a washing machine; a garden washed by the warm afternoon sun. By allowing users agency to order and re-order the sequence of shots through basic web sorting functions such as by title, length, file size, or random, this work aims to find the intersection between database and narrative.

	What does it mean to take a walk in our digital landscapes, specifically web mapping platforms such as Google Street View? What tensions arise between the murkiness of our personal constructions of a place and the resolution of the panoramic digital map; between our eye-level perception of the world and the view of it from above?

Sometimes I Feel Like Walking is part video essay and part counter-map of a hometown. Using archival footage, images and text superimposed on a Google Street View walkthrough, this film tells a brief biography of a place framed through the lens of the personal narrative. By excavating recollections and disorientations from within a tool used to survey and objectify, this work — or this walk — aims to present an uncertain, fragmented and hazy personal cartography of a home against the fidelity of our maps, digital or otherwise.
It is said that every time a memory is recalled, it changes. How can we reconstruct and rewrite our memories of a place within the narratives imposed by some sort of power and system? How do we reclaim our complex and ever-evolving notions of a home from the exactness of our maps?

The Forgetting Syllabus is an archival initiative undertaken by an unnamed artist investigating and documenting what remains of Calimut Island, a small and remote island in the Philippines placed under Martial Law and where inhabitants are afflicted with some sort of progressive amnesia.

On the 15th of March 2023, the initiative exhibited an archive of the artist’s ongoing research and documentations in a small room at the Center for Integrative Technologies, Providence, RI. They presented a collection of found artifacts from the island — some gathered, some passed down, some materialized by speculation. The archive included redacted poetry out of the Martial Law declaration documentations, a samizdat comic book, blueprints of a memory modification device, large format photographs depicting an unknown girl at the beach, postcards containing cryptic codes between distant lovers, a burnt book covered in sand, a map of a cartographer’s effort to piece together his last memories of the land, among others. Each one a fragment of a narrative that had been erased by an atrocity; each one a reminder of a brutal history thrown in a violent cycle of revision and distortion.

In an audio recording playing in the space during the exhibition, the artist claims that, “... memory is a form of resistance and remembering is radical.”

A compendium that attempts to take the form of a “montage” and a publication about the tender, soft, and hazy, this work frames my initial thesis research inquiry in preparation for my final year at RISD. The spreads, containing my fragmented writing, personal works, annotations, and footnotes are perforated into three horizontal sections that the reader can tear and piece together in order to produce new composites.

This work contains four publications, tucked in a cellophane plastic sheet bag, documenting and celebrating the only Filipino store in Rhode Island. Pinoy Lane is a glimpse and a brief exploration of what might the Filipino experience look like&#38;nbsp; — within the diaspora or otherwise – through the lens of the people and artifacts of a place displaced.
